The Bob Moog Foundation has announced its 15th anniversary raffle, where you can enter to win a vintage Minimoog Model D, signed by the late Robert Moog himself. Proceeds go on to benefit Dr. Bob's SoundSchool, which is, as stated on the organization's website: "currently inspiring over 3,000 elementary school students per year through the science of sound, and poised to grow nationwide in 2022".
Proceeds are also used to help grow and maintain the Moogseum, which opened in late May of 2019 in Asheville, North Carolina where the Moog factory is located, and immerses thousands of visitors from all over the world in the science of sound and synthesis through the legacy of the pioneering work of Dr. Bob Moog.
Widely regarded as the most iconic synth of all time, the Minimoog Model D has been known the world over for its warm, commanding basslines and rich leads, making it particularly popular in black music, sitting at the forefront of works by legendary artists such as Stevie Wonder, Herbie Hancock, and Parliament Funkadelic. The Minimoog was also a favorite of electronic pioneers such as Kraftwerk and Gary Numan.
This particular Minimoog being given away, serial number 6572, stands at a value of over $9,500, and was built in the mid-1970's at Moog's then Williamsville, New York factory. The Bob Moog Foundation states on their website that the Minimoog: "is in excellent technical and physical condition, with minor flaws that are normal with the age of the instrument". It was restored and future-proofed by technician Wes Taggart of Analogics, and has Bob Moog's signature from the NAMM show in 2000, on the upper right hand corner.
Tickets are $20 each, 6 for $100, 14 for $200, or 40 for $500. The raffle, which is open internationally, will run until 11:59 PM August 30th, 2021, or when the 5,000 tickets are sold. Whichever comes first. Winner to be announced on Friday September 3rd, 2021. You can purchase your tickets here.
